  • Do other family members have allergies?
  • Do you ever wheeze or do you have a chronic cough?

Diagnosis - Allergy Skin Testing

Although not everyone requires it, a skin test may help identify the specific allergens that are causing the allergic reactions. They are usually done on the back. The small amount of the specific allergen is placed on the skin, which is gently scratched with a sterile disposable needle. If the area swells or becomes red and itchy within fifteen to twenty minutes, you may be allergic to those specific substances.

Some patients would require a second skin test called Intradermal, which is like the first test except for the fact that it is done using a very small intradermal disposable needle. The whole procedure is tolerated very well by children and adults. We always explain our plans and procedures with our patients and / or their family members in advance. We make sure that all questions or concerns are answered. Contact Allergy & Asthma Center of the Tri-State Inc today!
